Highlights for this year:

Our Author and Saint of the Day is still very popular and the children enjoy choosing their prize when they find information on their person. We are wrapping up this year’s book club for sixth to eighth grade with the book Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick.

Since politics is in the forefront this spring and April is also National Poetry Month, our sixth grade is combining Social Studies and ILA by writing a poem about the Primary Elections.

Seventh grade is celebrating Earth Day by researching endangered species and making a poster encouraging people to save their endangered animal.

Eighth grade is working on a research project about the Electoral College and election practices.

Our younger children are finding this year’s new word games, puzzles and our new interactive globe a challenge.

Read Across America is a recent memory and another great success. Grades 2 and 6 won the reading competition by reading the most pages and will have 3 books donated to our library in their classroom’s name. Some of our more celebrated readers were Congressman Joe Sestak, Nate Guernin, #7 for the Philadelphia Phantoms, Phyllis Mariani, author of ...and Baby Makes a Family, Captain Chas Howley from the Ridley Township Police Department and Brett Illig, former LA Dodger short stop and creator and director of Mission of Hope which helps disadvantaged young in the Phoenixville area. The students were entertained and inspired by these very specials readers.

What would you like your students to take away from this year?

Our students are very eager readers. I would like each and every student to develop a life-long love for reading. There is a book of interest in our library for everyone. Almost everything we do in the course of the day involves reading, so make sure you practice your reading buy spending at least 10 minutes a day reading for your own enjoyment.  Keep a book on your night table and read before bed. It's so relaxing!

Why did you become a teacher?

I had some wonderful teachers who influenced me and I've always enjoyed reading.

What is your favorite lesson to teach?

I really enjoy teaching students to do research from the Almanacs. There is so much information and fun facts to find in the Almanacs.

What is one thing your students don't know about you?

I played the tambourine and sang in a folk group when I was in high school. We sang at the Mainpoint in Bryn Mawr and won several local folk competitions.
