To help First Grade celebrate Dr. Suess' 113th birthday on Read Across America Day, Notre Dame alum Teresa Huddell read aloud You're Here for a Reason by Nancy Tillman to the First and Second Grade classes during library time.
After the reading, the classes discussed the book, comparing it to their favorite Dr. Suess' books. The kids were fascinated by the illustrations and the rhyming nature of the book. Questions about the book were quickly followed by questions about Mrs. Huddell's job as a real estate agent. One student asked if Mrs. Huddell "jazzed up" houses before selling them like a popular home show. Mrs. Huddell told the students her favorite part of the job was showing houses and talking to kids and their families.
Teresa Huddell was part of the first second grade class at the newly-built Notre Dame de Lourdes School in the fall of 1960. She remembers her teacher with great fondness. Her first memory of the school is walking across wooden boards to enter the school since the school was still under construction on the first day of school.
Two Eighth Grade students escorted Mrs. Huddell for her visit. Both are planning on attending Cardinal O'Hara, Mrs. Huddell's high school alma mater.
