Ash Wednesday is Wednesday February 26, 2020 this year to start off the Lenten season. Lent is a 40-day season of fasting, repentance and reflection before Easter.. We will attend Mass at Notre Dame de Lourdes as a school, and reflect on Christ’s life during Lent, focusing on His own ultimate triumph over temptation. Lent ends with the celebration of Easter, marking Jesus’ resurrection.

The Archdiocese is made up of 119 elementary, 17 secondary and four schools of special education across Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, and each school celebrated in their own way.
Dedicating fifty years to a career is impressive. But committing fifty years to Catholic education is an achievement worthy of special recognition. St. Monica teacher Mrs. Sarah Avitalle was honored this past Friday during a Mass celebrating teachers who have reached milestones in their careers. Mrs. Avitalle began teaching in Philadelphia 50 years ago at the age of 18.
Starting on one career path doesn’t always mean you won’t veer off into a new path all together. Two teachers at Bishop McDevitt High School, Dr. Dorothy Burdziak and Michael Newns, can attest to this. Both started out with different career paths, but found themselves drawn to teaching.
Catholic Schools Week is well underway at Notre Dame de Lourdes. In celebration of our teachers who have dedicated years (25 years and 50 years) of their life to Catholic education, Bishop Michael J. Fitzgerald will lead a celebration Mass for these teachers hitting these milestones.
